The first China International Consumer Products Expo kicked off on Thursday in Haikou, the capital of South China's Hainan province.
首届中国国际消费品博览会5月6日在海南海口开幕。
Co-hosted by China's commerce ministry and the Hainan provincial government, the expo is expected to attract more than 200,000 visitors.
首届消博会由中国商务部和海南省政府共同举办，预计各类观众超过20万人。
Slated for May 7-10, the event has attracted 648 overseas companies and 1,365 brands from 69 countries and regions, as well as 857 enterprises and 1,263 brands from China.
7日至10日展会举行期间，国际展区参展企业648家，参展品牌1365个，来自69个国家和地区；国内展区参展企业857家，参展品牌1263个。
Covering 80,000 square meters, the expo will be the largest consumer goods expo in the Asia-Pacific region, organizers said.
主办方表示，展览总面积8万平方米，将成为亚太地区规模最大的消费精品展。
A forum on global consumption innovation will be held during the expo, and a series of new products will debut, organizers said.

China said Thursday that Australia has been for some time abusing the so-called "national security" reasons to further restrict and suppress China-Australia cooperation, which has gravely damaged mutual trust between the two countries and undermined the foundation of normal exchanges and cooperation. China has to make a necessary and legitimate response, and Australia must take full responsibilities for this, according to foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin.

He made the remarks in response to a query on the decision by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) to indefinitely suspend all activities under the framework of the China-Australia Strategic Economic Dialogue starting from Thursday.

The 95-year-old monarch's Sandringham Estate announced on Twitter that it has developed its own beer range -- an Indian pale ale and a bitter. Organic barley grown on the grounds of the Queen's retreat in eastern England has been used to develop the beers, which are available to buy from the Sandringham Shop, the estate said on Tuesday.
