很容易选，判断后面一个空格有一个the，与前一个空格词有关系，那么答案就是前一个形容词的最高级，所以答案就是
Even though you're late, Kate came the latest.
（即使你迟到了，Kate仍然是最后一个才到的。）
可选答案里的四个字长得特别像，分别是 late、last、latest 以及 least，它们之间有什么关系？使用上又有什么区别呢？
一、late
adj.晚的； 迟到； 接近末期； 在晚年； 迟发生； 迟做； 近日暮的； 近深夜的；
adv.晚； 迟； 接近末期； 在晚年； 临近日暮； 接近午夜；
Late主要用来表达某一件事情或某个人在“超过预定时间后才抵达”，或是用来指“晚期的”的意思。
例：
（1）Come on, don’t be be late for your bus!
（快点，不然你要赶不上你的公交车了！）
（2）My mom didn't have my little sister until she was in her late forties.
（我妈妈直到她快四十岁的时候才生下我的妹妹。）
二、Latest
adj.最近的; 最新的;
n.最新事物; 最新消息;
adv.迟; 晚; 接近末期; 在晚年; 临近日暮; 接近午夜;
Latest 是 late 的最高级，也就是指“时间上最近发生的、最新的”
例：
（1）According to the latest report, our country had the lowest birth rate ever this year.
（根据最新的报告，我们国家今年出现了有史以来最低的生育率。）
（2）Have you seen the latest movie?
（最近有没有最新的电影？）
三、last
Adj.最后的； 最末的； 末尾的； 最近的； 上一个的； 仅剩下的； 最终的；
adv.最后； 最终； 终结； 最新； 最近； 上一次；
n. 最后来的人（或发生的事）； 仅剩下的部分（或事项）；
v. 持续； 继续； 延续； 继续存在； 持续起作用； 持久； （在困境等中）坚持下去； 超越（困境等）；

Last最常用的是指最后的，但通常指“顺序上的最后”。
例：
（1）The last person leaving the office should turn off the lights.
（最后离开办公室的人要关灯。）
（2）We caught the last bus home.
（我们赶上了回家的最后一趟公共汽车。）
比较容易混淆的情况是，last 也可以用来指“最近”的意思，因为就事件发生顺序来看，最靠近现在时间所发生的事情，就是“最近的、最新发生的”，所以有时候会看到象是把 last 当做 latest 的状况。
例：
Bright colors were seen in the last fashions of France.
（法国最新的时尚打扮中出现了浅色的使用。）
但如果按照更贴近母语人士的用法的话，还是要用 latest：Bright colors were seen in the latest fashions of France.
四、least
adv.最小; 最少; 微不足道;
adj.小的; 比较小的; (用在形容词的后面表示喜爱或厌恶，尤指屈尊俯就地)可爱的，可怜的，讨厌的; 年幼的; 幼小的;
Least 是 little 这个字的最高级，意思是“最少、最小的，程度最轻的”
例：
（1）It's the least I can do to help .
（这是我所能帮忙做的最起码的事。）
（2）She never had the least idea what to do about it.
（这事怎么办，她一点主意都没有。）
