《新概念英语》(New Concept English) 是我们几代人共同熟知的一套最经典的英语学习教材之一,其可谓英语学习的圣经( the Bible of learning English). Indeed, so many people have got success of learning English by this textbook, New Concept English. 随着教培业的发展,现如今这套教材和与之配套的学习资料(应该是非双减范畴),更是丰富到了极致,都好得不能再好。But, you, my dear friends! Could you be sure to learn English well by the textbook? If not, Why?
其实,在英语学习上,学什么样的教材和课程并不是那样重要,It doesn’t matter! It matters that for what and how you learn the English language. 学习目的和学习目标才是我们学习英语的关键所在,而不同的目的和目标将产生出不同的教学方法。不论学习什么样的教材和课程,只要学习目的和目标明确,并通过与之相适应的有效方法,都能够达成我们的目标,实现我们的目的。
大家都知道《新概念英语》是一套最便利的英语学习教材,所以我也再次选择这套教材,在当前的教培形势下,重新构建我们融解教育的英语培训课程。这里,我将用《新概念》第二册第一课A private Conversation《私人谈话》这篇课文为教学素材,简要说明不同学习目的和目标会产生怎样不同的教学方法。
Lesson 1 A private Conversation
Why did the writer complain to the people behind him? Last week I went to the theatre. I had a very good seat. The play was very interesting. I did not enjoy it. A young man and a young woman were sitting behind me. They were talking loudly. I got very angry. I could not hear the actors. I turned round. I looked at the man and the woman angrily. They did not pay any attention. In the end, I could not bear it. I turned round again. ‘I can't hear a word!’ I said angrily. ‘It's none of your business,’ the young man said rudely.‘This is a private conversation!’
方法1
以单纯应试为目的和目标的教学方法
教学步骤:学习单词短语(知识基础) 课文解读(词语和句子语法) 课文听读训练(知识巩固) 试题训练(应试能力)
1. 单词短语(知识基础)
目标:单词和短语的听写或默写达标。(机械记忆)
目的:实现单词音形义的记忆。(长期记忆和短期记忆)
2. 课文解读(语法学习)
目标:讲解词语搭配和句子构成的语法规则。
目的:实现从英语到汉语的翻译式理解。
3. 课文听读(知识巩固)
目标:跟听课文录音,达到熟练朗读课文的要求。
目的:巩固词语搭配和句子构成的语法知识,并非追求语感积累。
4. 试题训练(应试能力)
目标:独立做题,进一步巩固所学知识
目的:掌握应试技巧,确保答案正确
方法2
以能力发展为目的和目标的教学方法
教学步骤:课文朗读和背诵(总体语感训练) 句法训练(体会词语和句子语法) 组词造句(理解记忆) 试题训练(语感的运用巩固)
1. 课文朗读和背诵(总体语感)
目标:在实际语流中体会和掌握单词和句子的语音语调,以发音正 确为核心。
目的:在大脑和发音系统中,形成单词和句子的物理性记忆,也就是语音记忆。
2. 句法训练(掌握语法)
目标:根据课文设计词语替换和句型变换,通过口头训练达成语法体会和掌握的目标。
目的:实现从英语到英语的思维训练和意义理解。
3. 组词造句(理解记忆)
目标:进一步理解单词和短语在句子中的意义和用法。
目的:实现单词和短语的理解性记忆(长期记忆),为日后表达做好储备。
4. 试题训练(巩固语感)
目标:独立做题并发现问题。
目的:在巩固语感的基础上同时提升应试能力。
两种教学方法的课堂运用

1.单词和短语学习(拼读拼写+汉解意义)

2. 课文解读(讲语法+做翻译)
①时态:一般过去时态,过去进行时态
②冠词:a/an和the的用法
③“系动词+形容词”结构:get angry
④习惯用语:It’s none of your business!
3. 课文听读(听录音+做朗读)
有些课程或老师还会要求背诵,也会做一定的正音训练。
4. 试题训练(改错+纠错)
这部分工作大家都很熟悉,不用多说。
方法二
1. 课文朗读和背诵(正音+语感)
这是个语音感知系统的物理性训练,按听读,朗读,背诵三步走。完成背诵是后续学习的基础,否则,学习会大打折扣。
2. 句法训练(词语替换+句型变换)
<1>. 句型变换
原句:Why did the writer complain to the people behind him?
陈述句:The writer complained to the people behind him.
否定句:The writer didn’t complain to the people behind him.
一般问句:Did the writer complain to the people behind him?
特殊问句:Who did the writer complain to?
原句:A young man and a young woman were sitting behind him.
一般问句:Were they sitting behind him?
否定句:They were not sitting behind him.
特殊问句:Who were sitting behind him?
Where were they sitting?
(根据教学进度和学生情况可设计更多的练习)
<2>. 词语替换
原句:They were talking loudly.
换词:They were talking quietly.
原句:The play was very interesting.
换词:The play was very boring.
原句:They were sitting behind him.
换词:They were sitting in front him.
原句:I got very angry.
换词:I got very happy.
(根据教学需要可设计更多的练习)
3. 组词造句(理解词义+掌握用法)
<1>. complain (v.)
complain to sb., complain of/about sth.
You can complain to the manager.
You can’t complain of life.
I won’t complain. So, you needn’t complain.

Our class will put on a play by Shakespeare this weekend.
