英语里面，affair是个很奇怪的词，一般指 “事情；事件”，比如
He mishandled the whole affair.（他错误地处理了整个事情）。但这个词，也常常被做为隐语，指男女之间，尤其是已婚男女之间的婚外情（extramarital affair）。比如，She is having an affair with her boss. (她和老板之间有暧昧关系)。在这个意义上，有这样一些表达，love affair, romantic affair, emotional affair, adultery, infidelity, betrayal.
