1987年，杨得志与肖劲光大将，一张罕见的老照片，拍摄于肖劲光的寓所当中，这一天恰逢肖劲光84岁生日，杨得志前来拜访提前表示祝贺，此时的肖劲光已经卸任了海军司令员的职务，过起了退休的生活。1989年3月29日肖劲光去世，享年86岁，他也是开国大将中最长寿的将军。
