Chinese EV battery giant Gotion High-tech(国轩高科)’s U.S. subsidiary Gotion Inc is planning to establish a plant in Michigan that could draw up to $3.6 billion in investment and 2,000 new jobs, the Detroit News reported September 20, citing sources.
Gotion Inc would produce battery components at a yet-to-be constructed plant in Big Rapids, Michigan, according to the report. The new facility is expected to lead to about 500 jobs initially and potentially up to 2,000 jobs over the next ten years.
The company did not immediately respond to a media request for comment.
Established in 1995 and headquartered in Hefei, eastern China’s Anhui Province, Gotion High-tech is principally engaged in manufacturing lithium-ion power batteries and electric transmission and transformation businesses.
The battery maker is known to have partnered with German auto group Volkswagen and Indian automotive giant Tata Motors to produce low-cost batteries for economy EVs.
