Museums and art galleries should concentrate on local works rather than show the cultures or artworks of other countries. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Culturalprosperitymakes a huge difference to a nation’s prospect, andto this end, museums and art galleries are the essential places for both locals and tourist to get immersed in the complexmosaicof world cultures. Therefore, while some propose that those places should focus on local works, I ratherentertainthe view that both local andexoticcultures should be displayed.

This is mainly because a shared ideologydenotedby local works is a strong socialbonding mechanism: locals, exposed to their unique cultural heritage, can witness the lives and core values of their remote ancestors as well as perceive the splendid civilization created by them. In this sense, not only can a city’s cultural relics remainintact, but residents’ cultural identity can also be enhanced. In contrast, if more foreign works are presented, residents, owing to their nature of seeking for novelty, are more likely to be obsessed with exotic cultures andtaketheir own culturefor granted, which may lead local customs tovanish.
