2024年4月21日,京领诺奖创新论坛暨全球国际学校颁奖典礼在北京国家会议中心成功举办。


诺奖科学家美国西部院校协会主席世界级院士数百名全国知名国际化学校校长,围绕“科技创新与人才培养”主题,畅谈国际教育升级发展,共同见证“诺奖创新平台全球科研基地”授牌仪式与“京领全球领军校长”、“京领中国国际学校系列榜单”颁奖仪式。

On April 21, 2024, the KingLead Nobel Innovation Forum and the Award Ceremony of International Schools were successfully held at the China National Convention Center.

Nobel Laureates, the President of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), world-class academicians,as well asprincipals of hundreds of international schools,gathered to discuss the issues ofscience and technology innovation, talent cultivation,and the upgrade and development of international education. They witnessed the award ceremonies for the"Nobel Innovation Platform Research Base School","Global Leading Principals" and the"KingLead International School Rankings Series".

自2020年起,京领已连续举办五届诺奖创新论坛,先后邀请诺贝尔物理学奖得主、诺贝尔化学奖得主、诺贝尔生理学或医学奖得主、诺贝尔经济学奖得主与全国数百所国际化学校及学生共同参与,旨在汇聚全球创新智慧,推动教育质量提升、科技产业升级、社会创新发展,培养面向未来的创新人才。

Innovation is the fundamental driving force for social development, and the cultivation of innovative talents has become a global consensus. At the KingLead Nobel Innovation Forum, Prof. Maskin shared with us his personal experience on the topic of "How to develop innovative thinking".

"I’d like to congratulate the schools who have done so well according to the KingLead rankings, and I'd also like to congratulate KingLead for the important work they're doing in promoting innovation.

"Innovation is perhaps the most precious human activity that we have. It is the activity that transforms our lives. Since the beginning of the 19th century, the steam engine, railroads, telephones, telegraphs, and many other miraculous innovations have emerged that have transformed the world. Where do those new ideas come from in the first place? How do innovators manage to make their discoveries? I think 'education' is a very crucial step. Schools encourage the students to think outside the box and to guide them so that they aren't overwhelmed with knowledge. So I'd like to thank all schools for recognizing the importance of innovative talents and doing so much to promote it."

北京师范大学附属实验中学国际部优秀学子:什么改变了您对生物学的兴趣?数学思维对医学研究有什么帮助?

凯林院士:我的第一爱好是数学和计算机科学。当我上高中的时候,我被选中去一所大学,和来自美国各地的其他31名高中生一起学习大学水平的数学和计算机科学。但我发现至少有别的学生表现出来的数学天赋比我更高,所以我认为这类人会继续从事最高水平的数学研究。这就是我开始转向医学的原因。但我要说的是,数学是一个很好的方法帮助你学会如何有逻辑地、清晰地、批判性地思考。


Jiayi Chen

The student ofSDSZ International Department:What is it that shifted your interest to biology? How may a mathematical mindset be helpful in medical research?

Prof. Kaelin:My first love was mathematics and computer science. When I was in high school, I was selected to go to a college and study college-level mathematics and computer science with 31 other high school students from across America. But I did discover there was at least 1 student who was a much better mathematician than I was. So I assume that would be the type of person who would go on to do mathematics at the highest level. That's why I shifted my interest to medicine. But I will say that mathematics is a great way to help you learn how to think logically, clearly and critically.

凯林院士:首先是发展科学直觉,或是科学品味。科学家需要学会挑选有价值的问题来解决,并设计有效的实验。再而是需要和卓越的科学家们接触,了解他们的思路,寻求他们的帮助。向他们学习在挑选问题和设计有效实验的过程中,如何做到适度的控制并寻求确切的佐证来支持你的结论。最后是驱动力。科学研究是一项艰苦的工作,你必须坚持不懈、不断追求,才有可能获得令人难以置信的回报。

The Student of Beijing Academy International Division:What do you think are the most important qualities for young scientists when conducting research in biological science?

Prof. Kaelin:Firstly, the important part of science is developing scientific intuition or scientific taste. Scientists need to pick good problems to work on, and then to design hopefully effective experiments that will begin to generate knowledge related to those questions. Secondly, I think the more important thing is to be around great scientists to see how they think. Because some of that will rub off on you and for them to help you. As you learn the process of picking questions and designing effective experiments, complete with appropriate controls and appropriate corroborating lines of evidence to support your conclusion. Lastly, I think you have to hopefully have some drive. Scientific research can be hard work, but it can also be incredibly rewarding if you are persistent in pursuing your ideas.

凯林院士:有价值的问题有时是从一个非常奇怪的现象开始的,不管是一个生物现象,还是一个临床医学现象。它们像有趣的谜题,而科研的美妙之处在于我可以准确地选择我想要解决的谜题。世界运转的过程中不断发生着令人兴奋的事情,在我们解决难题的过程中又会遇到新的东西,我们可以借此延展,不断发问。当我们成为第一个理解大自然规律的人时,是非常欣喜且有成就感的。

The student of Shenzhen Middle School International Department:How can I come up with a good question?

Prof. Kaelin:A good problem sometimes just starts with a very curious phenomenon. Whether it's a biological phenomenon or it's a phenomenon in clinical medicine that strikes you as an interesting puzzle. The beauty of scientific research is that I get to choose exactly what puzzles I want to work on. What makes the world go around is we all find different, interesting and exciting things. As we've been solving these puzzles once in a while, we see something new. Then, we can keep asking questions. When we're the first people in the history of homo sapiens to understand the laws of nature, it is very enjoyable and fulfilling.

上海领科双语学校优秀学子:您认为应该如何培养学生成为更卓越的全球公民和生物学研究者?

凯林院士:我认为医学的未来从未如此光明过。仔细想想,我们在2000年才真正第一次草拟出人类基因组。在过去的十年里,我们才拥有了像酶分析仪这样的工具,开始真正精确地重写基因组代码,以更详细地研究各种基因、各种途径的功能。实验室里,模型变得更专业、工具也变得更高级。因此,就研究人类疾病的能力而言,我们正处于一个全新的时代。但作为一名科学家,最重要的是自己需要找到真正充满热情的研究方向,这是不被外力所影响的。此外,一些卓越且友好的导师,在前沿实验室的工作经历,及扎实的生物学知识缺一不可。然后就可以开始期待神奇事情的发生了。

The student of Shanghai Ulink Bilingual School:How to cultivate students to become more exceptional global citizens and researchers in biology?

Prof. Kaelin:I think the future of medicine has never been brighter. When you think about it, we really only had the first draft of the human genome in the year 2000. And we really only had tools like an enzyme analyzer in the past decade to start to really precisely rewrite the genome code to study in more detail what the functions were of various genes and various pathways. In the laboratory, the models have gotten better, and the tools have gotten better. So I think we're in a completely new era in terms of our ability to study human diseases. But the last thing I'll say is being a scientist is about finding the thing that excites you. The thing that you're so passionate about, and this should be dictated from the outside. Hopefully, along the way you meet some good mentors, you're in some good laboratories, you get exposed to some in biology, and then the magic happens.

Research ignites innovative thinking, while innovation showcases the allure of research. At this forum, Prof. Cardwell explained the significance of innovation in research, drawing on his experience from interviewing over 3,000 students across more than a decade.

“I think there are some very good factors of innovative research in education that can prepare students for studying at a world-class university like the University of Cambridge. Being a good researcher and innovator requires a sense of creativity, but it also starts with down-to-earth research – it all starts with research.”

“Innovation is about problem-solving, bringing ideas and understanding to the process of achieving something. More importantly, innovation and doing research is not just about yourself or getting a high grade in a course – you have to be ethical, keep an open mind, be humble and keep learning."
