磨料是磨具中起磨削作用的物质。磨料可分为天然磨料和人造磨料两大类。依据磨料的磨削性能，又可将金刚石等高硬度材料称为超硬磨料，其他的为普通磨料。普通磨料包括刚玉和碳化硅两大系列的各种磨料品种。超硬磨料包括金刚石和CBN的各种品种。
