TMTPOST -- The Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Society & Chen Institute Joint Meeting jointly hosted by the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute and the BCI Society, was held in Shanghai from December 6-7. The event marked the first time in 25 years that the BCI Society's prestigious conference has been held in Asia.
Nearly 400 scientists, clinicians, and industry professionals from around the world gathered to discuss cutting-edge breakthroughs in BCI technology and its industrial applications. The conference provided an important platform for showcasing the latest research and fostering innovation in the rapidly evolving field of BCI.
Luo Qianqian, founder of the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute, emphasized the importance of global collaboration in advancing BCI technology. “This meeting is not only a key platform for sharing the latest research but also a rare opportunity to connect global minds and spark innovative ideas,” said Luo.
Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute has been at the forefront of supporting BCI research and industry development in China, hosting forums, attracting thousands of attendees, and funding projects on BCI language decoding, motor decoding, and therapies for diseases like ALS. The institute has also partnered with Huashan Hospital to establish a cutting-edge laboratory for applied neurotechnologies and supported the development of invasive flexible BCI technology through its investment in BrainTiger Technology.
Achieving efficient information transfer through the remodeling of neural networks is not only key to uncovering brain functions but also an important approach to developing new therapeutic methods, said professor Pu Muming from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The meeting was also attended by prominent experts such as Professor Jocelyne Bloch from Lausanne University Hospital, Professor Gregoire Courtine, and Professor Hong Bo from Tsinghua University.
Previously, the interaction within the global brain-computer interface research community has been relatively limited, said Mariska Vansteensel, head of the BCI Society.
The holding of this meeting not only provides a comprehensive communication platform for the entire industry but also represents a significant step in fulfilling our mission to promote global BCI research, Vansteensel noted.
