On April 23, Wang Jie made his first public appearance as an astronaut for China’s Shenzhou-20 mission. Born in a small village in Inner Mongolia, Wang grew up herding sheep and helping his family with farming. Inspired by China’s first manned spaceflight in 2003, he studied aerospace engineering at Beihang University, eventually joining China’s third astronaut selection group in 2020. After rigorous training, Wang now steps into space as an astronaut.
